SALARY: FROM $49,456 TO $87,626 DEPENDING ON EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

Kativik Ilisarniliriniq (KI) is a school board offering educational services in the 14 communities of Nunavik. 

FUNCTION & DUTIES:

Under the supervision of Director of Complementary Services, the psychoeducator will work in close collaboration with the complementary services team, the local Inuit special education technicians, the behavior technicians and other members of the staff in order to address behavioral difficulties in a comprehensive and coordinated manner, and facilitate school environment conducive to learning.

IN GENERAL THIS POSITION INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Detect, plan and conduct psychoeducational evaluations of students to determine their behavioural assessment and psychosocial needs;
• Evaluate behavior of students referred by school staff as having challenges in the socio-affective domain;
• Work with multidisciplinary team to plan and review a student’s individualized education plan;
• Plan, organize and conduct activities with classes or groups of students who demonstrate similar problems in order to teach anger management, conflict resolution as well as appropriate behavior;
• Meet with specifically identified students on a regular one to one basis;
• Prepare material and activities required to identify and work with students with serious behavior problems;
• Collaborate with parents, school professionals and managerial staff;
• Provide workshops and tools for behavior technicians, special education technicians and nurture groups;
• Prepares progress notes, evaluation, end-of-process and follow-up reports on intervention plans.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• University diploma in psychoeducation;
• Member of ”l’Ordre des psychoéducateurs et psychoéducatrices du Québec”;
• At least three years’ experience working with troubled youth including creation of Individual Education Plans.

The Board may, at its discretion, waive any or all of the afore-mentioned qualifications if it finds a suitable candidate who is a beneficiary of the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement (JBNQA) and who accepts, as a condition of employment, to follow a training plan determined by the Board.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Candidate must have a good working knowledge of French and English;
• Northern and/or cross-cultural experience an asset;
• Willing to frequently travel in Nunavik.

CLASSIFICATION / SALARY / BENEFITS:

In accordance with the SPPENOM collective agreement for professionals. This position belongs to job category 2150: from $49,456 to $87,626 annually depending on qualification and experience. All benefits are prorated based on the percentage of the task.
