NATURE OF WORK
The employment of guidance counselor more specifically includes help, counseling, support and assessment of psychological functioning, personal resources and environmental conditions for young and adult students. . She or he intervenes with the aim of developing and maintaining active coping strategies to enable them to make personal and professional choices adapted to their individual characteristics and their environment, throughout their school career.

The high school guidance counselor will work closely with students and all school stakeholders. He or she can be involved in the implementation of new content in school and vocational guidance, in the preparation of workshops to animate in class, to participate in the development and monitoring of intervention plans or transition of students, he or she will advise the management in its decisions related in particular to the classification of the pupils, the grid-matters and the choices of course. He or she will be called upon to intervene in a significant way in the screening, monitoring and recovery of dropouts or at risk of dropping out. In addition, she or he will work on transitions to other institutions (various programs in high school, vocational training centers, adult education centers, CEGEPs, etc.).
